Abeche

Abéché is the 4th largest city in Chad, the capital of Ouaddaï Region. It has a population of 54,628 (as of 1993).The city was the capital of the Ouaddai Kingdom until France took power. At that time, it was the largest city in Chad with 28,000 people, however major epidemics reduced the population to 6000 in 1919. Today, the city is known for its markets, two mosques, church, square (the Place de l'Indépendance) and for its sultan's palace. Abéché also has a school, post office and hospital. There is also a small airport , just outside the city, with flights to N'Djaména.

Abéché ist eine Stadt im Osten des Tschad. Sie ist die Hauptstadt der Region Wadai, nahe der Grenze zur Region Darfur im Sudan.Abéché ist Handelszentrum besonders für Vieh, Fisch, Datteln, Salz und Indigo sowie für seine Webereien und den Sultanspalast bekannt. Es gibt hier eine Schule, ein Postamt, ein Hospital und einen kleinen Flughafen, von dem aus die Hauptstadt N´Djamena angeflogen wird.

Abéché jest ośrodkiem administracyjnym Regionu Ouaddaï, departament Ouara.Miasto leży przy drodze samochodowej z Ndżameny do Sudanu, na skrzyżowaniu dawnych szlaków karawanowych: wschód–zachód i transsaharyjskiego (do Bengazi, nad Morze Śródziemne).Ośrodek handlowy regionu hodowli bydła. Występuje przemysł spożywczy. Znajduje się tu port lotniczny oraz liczne meczety.

Abéché (75.855 dati del 2006) è la quarta città più grande del Ciad il capoluogo della provincia di Ouaddaï.Fu un antico centro preislamico all'incrocio di strade carovaniere, per secoli è stata un fiorente mercato di schiavi. Dal 1850 la città era capitale del Regno di Ouaddai fino alla colonizazione francese. A quel tempo, era la più grande città del Ciad con 28.000 abitanti, ma le epidemie ridussero la popolazione a 6000 (1919). Oggi, la città è conosciuta per l'importante mercato di prodotti agricoli (cotone) e del bestiame (ovini, cammelli). Ad Abéché sono presenti l'Università Adam Barka, IUSTA ovvero Istituto universitari di scienza e tecnica di Abéché, un ufficio postale ed un ospedale. C'è inoltre un piccolo aeroporto fuori della città con voli settimanali per N'Djaména. Da visitare sono le due moschee, la piazza dell'indipendenza e il palazzo del sultano.
