‘Abdullāh ( "servant of God", also spelled Abdullah, Abd Allah, Abdallah and Abdalla) is a common Arabic name, favored among Muslims because it indicates servitude and humility before God. Abdallah (auch Abd-Allah oder Abdullah; ) ist ein männlicher, arabischer Vorname und bedeutet Knecht oder Diener Gottes. Der Name ist in der gesamten islamischen Welt verbreitet. Männer, die zum Islam konvertieren, fügen oftmals Abdallah ihrem Namen bei.Die Bezeichnung Abd-Allah oder Gottesknecht ist allerdings kein spezifisch islamischer Terminus. Man findet ihn bereits in der jüdischen und christlichen Theologie als Titel für den Messias. Die Bezeichnung wurde insbesondere von syrischen Christen für Jesus Christus verwendet. Die lateinische Ausdruck für Gottesknecht lautet "servus dei". Er ist seit Papst  Gregor dem Großen    als Servus servorum Dei (Knecht der Knechte Gottes) auch offizielle Selbstbezeichnung der Päpste.
