Abdal (lit.: substitutes) is a rank of forty saints, but more often the larger group of 356 saints in Sufi theosophy, only known to and appointed by Allah. It is through their operations that the world continues to exist. The term over time has come to include a greater hierarchy of saints, all of different rank and prestige.

Unter Abdal (auch: ïsïq und torlaq) werden Bettelmönche aus manchen Derwischorden (Tariqas) verstanden.

Le mot derviche (farsi : درويش [derwiš], mendiant) est d'origine persane et désigne un mendiant. Par glissement de sens c'est le membre de certaines confréries soufies pratiquant ou non la mendicité. Le mot est passé à l'arabe (دَرويش [darwīš]) et au turc (derviş [derviš]) où il ne désigne que les membres de certaines confréries religieuses.

Abdal é um nome genérico dado aos religiosos persas que correspondente ao de derviche na Turquia e ao de monge entre os cristãos. É também o nome dado aos  sacerdotes tártaros.
