[Islamic] "Frowner". The uncle of Muhammad and the son of Abd al-Muttalib, Muhammad's grandfather. He died years later than the Prophet, namely in 654 CE (32 AH). Abbas was the ancestor of the Abbasids, the dynasty which ruled in Baghdad from 750 to 1258. He is the subject of many legends.
