Abadan

Abadan (film) is also the name of a 2003 Iranian movie from director Mani Haghighi, as well as the name of a town in Turkmenistan Abadan is a city in the Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran (Persia). It lies on Abadan Island (68 km long, 3-19 km wide, the island is bounded in the west by the Shatt al-Arab river and to the east by the Bahmanshir outlet of the Karun River), on the Shatt al-Arab river 53 kilometers from the Persian Gulf, near the Iraqi-Iran border. It is the capital of Abadan County. In 2005, the population was estimated to be at 415,139. The civilian population of the city dropped to near zero during the eight-years Iran-Iraq war. In 1992, only 84,774 had returned to live in the city. By 2001, the population had jumped to 206,073, only to double in the past five years.

Abadan ( Abadan //, ’Abbadan //) ist eine am Schatt el Arab gelegene Stadt in der Provinz Chuzestan im Südwest-Iran.Abadan liegt ca. 50 km vom  Persischen Golf entfernt auf einer 270 km² großen Insel. Die Stadt hat etwa 400.000 Einwohner und ist mit einer der größten  Raffinerien der Erde ein Zentrum für die iranische Erdölindustrie. Im Ersten Golfkrieg ab 1980 wurde die Stadt teilweise zerstört.Die Stadt hat einen internationalen Flughafen und beherbergt ein 1939 gegründetes technologisches Institut.

Abadan - miasto w płd.-zach. Iranie (Chuzestan), przy granicy z Irakiem, położone w północnej części wyspy o tej samej nazwie, leżącej w delcie rzeki Szatt al-Arab (będącej przedłużeniem Tygrysu i Eufratu).liczba mieszkańców: 450 140 (2006) Duży morski port naftowy położony 50 km od Zatoki Perskiej oraz ważna rafineria połączona rurociągami z polami naftowymi na przedpolu gór Zagros, zaopatrująca także sąsiednie porty naftowe Bandar-e Chomejni oraz Chark. Także port lotniczy i politechnika. Miasto dotkliwie zniszczone podczas wojny Iraku z Iranem w latach 1980-1988, obecnie odbudowane.

Abadan (آبادان in persiano) è una città della provincia del Khuzestan, nell'Iran sudoccidentale. Si trova sull'isola di Abadan, nel fiume Arvand. Ha una popolazione di 415.139 abitanti (stima del 2005). La città è la sede di una importantissima raffineria di petrolio, distrutta nei primi anni '80 durante il conflitto con l'Iraq e poi ricostruita.
