For other uses, see Shot in the Dark (disambiguation) A Shot in the Dark is a 1964 film directed by Blake Edwards and is the second installment (and considered by many to be the best) in the Pink Panther series. Peter Sellers is featured again as Inspector Jacques Clouseau of the French Sûreté. Clouseau's bumbling personality is unchanged, but it was only in this film that Sellers began to give him the idiosyncratically exaggerated French accent that was to become a hallmark of the character. The film also introduces Herbert Lom as his boss, Commissioner Dreyfus, and Burt Kwouk as his long-suffering servant, Cato, who would both become series regulars.  Elke Sommer plays the attractive Maria Gambrelli.

Ein Schuss im Dunkeln ist der zweite Film der sogenannten rosaroten Panther Reihe, des amerikanischen Regisseurs Blake Edwards. Ein Unterscheidungsmerkmal ist, dass im Vorspann des Filmes nicht der berühmte rosarote Panther vorkommt. Auch wird im Vergleich zum ersten Teil dieser Reihe das Geschehen nicht von dem berühmten Diamanten abhängig gemacht.In diesem Teil ist zum ersten Mal Inspektor Clouseau (verkörpert durch Peter Sellers) der Hauptdarsteller.

Het is het tweede deel in de The Pink Pantherserie. Peter Sellers keert terug als Inspector Jacques Clouseau uit het Franse Sûreté. Zijn dommige persoonlijkheid is onveranderd, maar nieuw is het overdreven Franse accent, wat een handelsmerk zou worden voor het karakter. De film introduceert Herbert Lom als zijn chef, Commissaris Dreyfus, en Burt Kwouk als bediende Cato. Deze twee zouden de hele serie blijven terugkeren. Elke Sommer speelt de aantrekkelijke Maria Gambrelli.
