Associated Press (AP) ist eine Nachrichtenagentur mit Hauptsitz in New York City, die im Mai 1848 (als 'Harbour News Association') gegründet wurde. Durch das Zusammenführen aus mehreren regionalen Presseagenturen 1892 baute sie ihren Informationsvorsprung entscheidend aus. Der erste Deutschland-Korrespondent nahm 1898 seine Arbeit auf. 1900 zog AP nach New York. Von der Satzung her ist die Agentur ein genossenschaftliches Unternehmen mit weit über 1.000 Mitgliedern. Die Zahl der Kunden wird auf rund 12.000 weltweit beziffert.

A Associated Press é uma cooperativa cujos proprietários são os jornais e estações de rádio e televisão norte-americanas que contribuem para a Associated Press. Vários mídias são assinantes da Associated Press, pagando uma taxa para usar o material da Associated Press, mas não são membros da cooperativa.
