AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) (or visceral nervous system) is the part of the peripheral nervous system that acts as a control system, maintaining homeostasis in the body. These maintenance activities are primarily performed without conscious control or sensation. The ANS has far reaching effects, including: heart rate, digestion, respiration rate, salivation, perspiration, diameter of the pupils, micturition - (the discharge of urine), and erection. Whereas most of its actions are involuntary, some ANS functions work in tandem with the conscious mind, such as breathing. Its main components are its sensory system, motor system (comprised of the parasympathetic nervous system and sympathetic nervous system), and the enteric nervous system.

Das vegetative Nervensystem (VNS) oder autonome Nervensystem (ANS) bildet zusammen mit dem somatischen Nervensystem das periphere Nervensystem von Wirbeltieren. Die „Autonomie“ bezieht sich auf den Umstand, dass über das VNS biologisch festliegende, automatisch ablaufende innerkörperliche Anpassungs- und Regulationsvorgänge vermittelt werden, die deswegen vom Menschen willentlich nicht direkt, also allenfalls indirekt beeinflusst werden können. Der Begriff „autonomes Nervensystem“ wurde vom britischen Physiologen John Newport Langley geprägt.

Autonomiczny układ nerwowy (łac. systema autonomicum) – część układu nerwowego, którego nerwy unerwiają narządy wewnętrzne. Wyodrębniony ze względu na pełnione przez siebie funkcje i budowę. W przeciwieństwie do somatycznego układu nerwowego, działanie układu autonomicznego powoduje reakcje niezależne od naszej woli, czyli np. wydzielanie soku żołądkowego, ruchy perystaltyczne jelit itd. Układ autonomiczny dzieli się na układ współczulny, inaczej sympatyczny (pobudzający) i przywspółczulny, inaczej parasympatyczny (hamujący). Wszystkie narządy wewnętrzne są unerwione jednocześnie przez oba te układy - ich działanie jest względem siebie antagonistyczne. W sytuacjach stresowych działanie układu współczulnego przeważa nad działaniem ukł. niewspółczulnego. Część sympatyczna i parasympatyczna wzajemnie uzupełniają się w działaniu.

Het autonome zenuwstelsel of ook wel vegetatief of visceraal zenuwstelsel reguleert een groot aantal onbewust plaatsvindende functies.Bij gewervelde dieren is naast het autonome het zogenaamde animale zenuwstelsel ontstaan.Het autonome zenuwstelsel regelt vooral de werking van inwendige organen. Het regelt onder andere de ademhaling, de spijsvertering en het verwijden en vernauwen van bloedvaten en het beïnvloedt ook de hartslag.
