Standard atmosphere is a pressure defined as 101 325 Pa and used as unit of pressure (symbol: atm). Standard atmosphere is a non-SI unit that is internationally recognized. The 10th Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures (10th CGPM) adopted standard atmosphere for general use and affirmed its definition of being precisely equal to 1,013,250 dynes per square centimeter (101,325 Pa). This value is intended to represent the mean atmospheric pressure at mean sea level at the latitude of Paris, France, and as a practical matter, truly reflects the mean sea level pressure for many of the industrialized nations (those with latitudes similar to Paris).

L'atmosphère normale (symbole atm) est une unité de pression, qui n'appartient pas au système international (SI). Elle a été définie lors de la 10e Conférence générale des poids et mesures, en 1954, comme étant égale à 1 013 250 dynes par cm² (soit 101 325 Pa) . Elle correspond en fait à la pression d'une hauteur de 760 mm (torr) de mercure à 0 °C, sous l'accélération normale de la pesanteur (9,806 65 m/s²).

L'atmosfera (o atmosfera standard, simbolo atm), pur non facendo parte del Sistema internazionale, è un'unità di misura della pressione molto usata in passato nella tecnica, e tuttora nel linguaggio corrente. Essa era definita come la pressione atmosferica di una colonna d'aria al livello del mare, a 0ºC di temperatura e a 45º di latitudine. Tuttavia nel determinare la pressione atmosferica, oltre alla temperatura, gioca un ruolo anche il grado di umidità relativa dell'aria stessa; perciò nel sistema internazionale alla pressione atmosferica è stata sostituita una diversa unità di misura, il pascal (Pa).
