Ans ist eine belgische Stadt im Norden der Provinz Lüttich in der Region Wallonien.Sie grenzt an die Stadt Lüttich. Ihre Geschichte ist durch den Kohlebergbau geprägt. Die Kohle wurde vom 13. Jahrhundert an genutzt, und die Gemeinde zählte bis zu 4 Kohlegruben.Am Bahnhof Ans fahren täglich ca. 125 Züge. Alljährlich endet in Ans der Radsportklassiker Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich auf der Rue Jean Jaurès.

Akademia Nauk Społecznych (ANS) (1984 - 30 września 1990), powstała w 1984 z połączenia Wyższej Szkoły Nauk Społecznych przy KC PZPR i istniejącego od 1974 Instytutu Podstawowych Problemów Marksizmu-Leninizmu.Była to uczelnia wyższa KC PZPR o statusie akademii, zlokalizowana w Warszawie (południowa część budynku przy Alejach Ujazdowskich 1/3 - obecnie Kancelaria Prezesa Rady Ministrów, ul. Szopena 5 i ul. Bagatela 2). Kształciła kadry dla aparatu PZPR i administracji PRL na 4-5 letnich studiach magisterskich dziennych, zaocznych i podyplomowych oraz kadry przed objęciem kluczowych stanowisk funkcjonariuszy partyjnych, administracyjnych i korpusu dyplomatycznego na 4-letnich studiach doktoranckich. Nadawała stopnie naukowe (doktoraty i habilitacje). Główne kierunki kształcenia: politologia, socjologia, historia, filozofia i ekonomia. Obok własnej kadry wykłady i zajęcia prowadzili pracownicy naukowi z innych ośrodków uniwersyteckich i akademickich. Na ANS studiowały również osoby nienależące do PZPR (w tym na studiach doktoranckich). Jej absolwentami było wielu prominentnych działaczy, takich np. jak Stanisław Kania czy Leszek Miller.
