Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) is the analog mobile phone system standard developed by Bell Labs, and officially introduced in the Americas in 1983. It was the primary analog mobile phone system in North America (and other locales) through the 1980s and into the 2000s, and is still widely available today, although use has dropped considerably with the introduction of various digital standards.

Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) ist ein bereits etwas älterer analoger amerikanischer Mobilfunkstandard, der ursprünglich vom amerikanischen Telekom-Monopolisten AT&T entwickelt wurde. Ab 1988 wurde AMPS der Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) weiterentwickelt. AMPS gehört zu der Familie der ersten Generation des zellularen Mobilfunks. AMPS nutzt das Zugriffsverfahren FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access). Die damals hohe Kapazität und Zuverlässigkeit von AMPS verhalf dem Standard zu Durchbruch und erlaubte es der amerikanischen Industrie das System in viele Länder zu exportieren. AMPS nutzt das 800 MHz Band. Von AMPS abgeleitet wurde TACS und ETACS zunächst für europäische Länder. TACS verwendet ein anderes Kanalraster und das 900 MHz Band. Ein weiterer Abkömmling von AMPS war JTACS, das J steht für Japan. Weiterentwicklungen von AMPS führten zu NAMPS (Narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service) das eine noch höhere Kapazität erlaubte.

AMPS (do inglês Advanced Mobile Phone System) foi a primeira geração de sistemas celulares, formada por sistemas analógicos (que só permite a transmissão de voz). Estabeleceu a estrutura e as funcionalidades básicas associadas a estes sistemas, como roaming e handover entre células.Desenvolvido pelo Bell Labs nos Estados Unidos (1979) entrou em operação naquele país em 1983 tornando-se o sistema analógico dominante em escala mundial. Foi padronizado pela EIA-553 e serviu de base para os demais sistemas analógicos como o TACS no Reino Unido.O AMPS foi padronizado para a freqüência de 800 MHz alocada nos Estados Unidos para sistemas celulares.
