ALZ

The Alz is a river in Bavaria, southern Germany, the only discharge of the Chiemsee. Its origin is on the northern shore near Seebruck. It is a right tributary of the Inn, into which it flows in Marktl. Other towns on the Alz are Altenmarkt an der Alz, Trostberg, Garching an der Alz and Burgkirchen an der Alz.

ALZip is an archive and compression utility from ESTsoft for Microsoft Windows. It supports 36 compression and archive formats including PKWARE's ZIP (file format). Originally ALZip was developed in 1999 as an internal application at the South Korean software company ESTsoft in response to employee frustration with using the English interface in WinZip. While several potential names for the new software were considered, ALZip won out. The other top contending name was 'HanZip', while 'DdongZip' (roughly translated as 'PoopZip') was thrown out for obvious reasons.

Die Alz ist der einzige Abfluss aus dem Chiemsee. Sie entspringt dem Chiemsee am nördlichsten Ufer bei Seebruck und mündet nach 63 km in der Nähe von  Marktl in den Inn.Man unterscheidet die Obere Alz, der Abschnitt vom Chiemsee bis nach Altenmarkt und die Untere Alz, die sich von Altenmarkt bis zur Mündung in den Inn erstreckt.Touristische Bedeutung hat die Obere Alz durch ihren relativ ruhigen Verlauf und durch ihr im Sommer – auf Grund der Sonneneinstrahlung im Chiemsee – relativ warmes Wasser erlangt. Im Zeitraum vom 1. Juli bis 31. Dezember ist es möglich, von Seebruck bis Altenmarkt mit Booten, insbesondere Schlauchbooten, zu befahren, bei schöner Witterung herrscht insbesondere an Wochenenden ein reger Bootsbetrieb.
