ALGOL

ALGOL (short for ALGOrithmic Language) is a family of imperative computer programming languages originally developed in the mid 1950s which became the de facto standard way to report algorithms in print for almost the next 30 years. It was designed to avoid some of the perceived problems with FORTRAN  and eventually gave rise to many other programming languages (including Pascal). ALGOL uses bracketed statement blocks and was the first language to use begin end pairs for delimiting them. Fragments of ALGOL-like syntax are sometimes still used as a notation for algorithms, so-called Pidgin Algol.

Algol (β Per / Beta Persei) is a bright star in the constellation Perseus. It is one of the best known eclipsing binaries, the first such star to be discovered, and also one of the first (non-nova) variable stars  to be discovered. Algol is actually a three star system (Beta Persei A, B and C) in which the large and bright primary Beta Persei A is regularly eclipsed by the dimmer Beta Persei B. Thus, Algol's magnitude is usually near-constant at 2.1, but regularly dips to 3.4 during the several hour long eclipses which occur every 2 days, 20 hours and 49 minutes.

Algol est un langage de programmation. Il a été créé à la fin des années 1950. Son nom est l'acronyme dalgorithmic oriented l'anguage (avec un clin d'œil à l'étoile ß Persei). Son objectif était de décrire algorithmiquement des problèmes de programmation. Les principales différences au niveau de la conception par rapport à fortran furent l'utilisation de blocs marqués par BEGIN END et surtout la récursivité, concepts qui seront largement repris par ses successeurs.

Algol (ß Persei) est une étoile variable à éclipses de la constellation de Persée, de magnitude 2, qui varie périodiquement tous les 2 jours et 21 heures environ. Algol a un compagnon sombre qui l'occulte et est responsable de sa baisse de luminosité, il s'agit donc d'une binaire à éclipses (elle est le prototype des variables de type Algol). La distance qui nous sépare d'Algol est de 92,8 années-lumière.

ALGOL (eine Abkürzung für „Algorithmic Language“), meist Algol geschrieben, ist der Name einer Familie von Programmiersprachen, die ab Ende der 1950er Jahre bis in die 1980er Jahre Verwendung fanden. Trotz etlicher Gemeinsamkeiten in Struktur, Syntax und Semantik sind diese Sprachen eigenständig und haben unterschiedliche Entstehungsgeschichten. Alle Algol-Varianten haben erheblichen Einfluss auf die weitere Entwicklung von Programmiersprachen gehabt. Insbesondere die Entwicklung der Sprache Pascal wurde stark von ALGOL beeinflusst.

Algol (aus arab. ) ist ein veränderlicher Stern und der zweithellste Stern (beta) im Sternbild des Perseus (ß Persei). Er befindet sich in einer Entfernung von ca. 93  Lichtjahren.Die scheinbare Helligkeit des Sterns wechselt über einen Zeitraum von 2 Tagen, 20 Stunden, 48 Minuten und 56 Sekunden zwischen 2,3m und 3,5m.Es handelt sich um ein Dreisternsystem. Ein hellerer bläulicher Stern (Spektralklasse B8) mit der einhundertfachen Helligkeit unserer Sonne und ein weniger leuchtstarker rötlich-gelber Stern (Spektralklasse K2) umkreisen einander im Abstand von 0.062 AU. Um dieses Doppelsternsystem kreist im mittleren Abstand von 2.69 AU ein dritter Stern mit einer Umlaufzeit von 681 Tagen.

Algol (β Per) – to gwiazda zmienna w gwiazdozbiorze Perseusza, której zmiany jasności odkrył Goodrick w 1783 roku. Nazwa pochodzi od arabskiego Al Ra's al Ghul, czyli Głowa Diabła. Algol jest układem zaćmieniowym o okresie orbitalnym równym 2,87 doby. Zmiany jasności zawierają się w przedziale od 2,12m do 3,29m, są one wynikiem przesłaniania się na przemian jaśniejszego i ciemniejszego składnika tej gwiazdy podwójnej. Układ zaćmieniowy składa się z gorącej gwiazdy ciągu głównego typu widmowego B8 oraz mniej masywnego olbrzyma typu K0.

Algol – (z  ang. Algorithmic Language), język programowania, który odegrał ważną rolę w historii informatyki. Od momentu powstania przez około 20 lat język ten (lub jego dialekty) był standardem opisu algorytmów w publikacjach naukowych.Prace nad Algolem rozpoczęto w drugiej połowie lat 50. XX wieku, formalną specyfikację języka opublikowano w raporcie Algol 58, następnie język rozwinięto w raportach Algol 60 i Algol 68. Te właśnie wersje zdobyły uznanie informatyków. O ile Algol 58 oparty był na Fortranie i brakowało w nim wielu niezbędnych dla programisty konstrukcji, Algol 60 stanowił przełom w dziedzinie języków programowania.

ALGOL (abbreviazione di ALGOrithmic Language, ossia linguaggio algoritmico) è un linguaggio di programmazione sviluppato nel 1958. In un certo senso fu una reazione al Fortran; introdusse concetti fondamentali come lo stack dei record di attivazione e per certi versi si può considerare capostipite di una grande famiglia di linguaggi di notevole successo, dal Pascal al C. Per una trentina d'anni è stato lo standard de facto con cui si rappresentavano gli algoritmi. L'ALGOL utilizza blocchi di istruzioni delimitati da coppie di begin ed end (come il Pascal); è stato il primo linguaggio ad usare questa sintassi molto utilizzata anche in didattica: frammenti di sintassi simile all'ALGOL sono tuttora utilizzati a volte come notazione per gli algoritmi chiamata Pidgin Algol.

Algol è il nome della stella Beta Persei.Questa stella è una delle poche visibili ad occhio nudo a mostrare una spiccata variabilità: la sua magnitudine apparente cambia regolarmente tra 2,3 e 3,5 in un periodo di 2 giorni, 20 ore e 49 minuti. Algol è una cosiddetta binaria ad eclisse: è composta da due stelle in orbita stretta l'una attorno all'altra, e quando la seconda stella, più debole della prima, le passa davanti (dal punto di vista della Terra), il totale della luce emessa diminuisce, e riaumenta quando entrambe le stelle sono visibili.
