AIDS

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS or Aids) is a collection of symptoms and infections resulting from the specific damage to the immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in humans, and similar viruses in other species (SIV, FIV, etc.). The late stage of the condition leaves individuals susceptible to opportunistic infections and tumors. Although treatments for AIDS and HIV exist to decelerate the virus' progression, there is currently no known cure. HIV, et al., are transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid containing HIV, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid, preseminal fluid, and breast milk. This transmission can come in the form of anal, vaginal or oral sex, blood transfusion, contaminated hypodermic needles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, or other exposure to one of the above bodily fluids.

Le syndrome de l'immunodéficience acquise, plus connu sous son acronyme SIDA ou sida (qui vient de l'anglais Acquired Immune deficiency Syndrome, AIDS), est le nom d'un ensemble de symptômes consécutifs à la destruction de plusieurs cellules du système immunitaire par un rétrovirus. Le sida est le dernier stade de l'infection par ce virus et finit par la mort de l'organisme infecté des suites de maladies opportunistes.

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (engl. für erworbenes Immundefektsyndrom, zumeist als AIDS oder Aids abgekürzt) bezeichnet eine spezifische Kombination von Symptomen, die beim Menschen in Folge der durch Infektion mit dem HI-Virus induzierten Zerstörung des Immunsystems auftreten. Diese Symptome bestehen aus Sekundärinfektionen (auch opportunistische Infektionen genannt) und Tumoren. Bereits während der mehrjährigen, symptomfreien Inkubationsphase können antivirale Medikamente eingesetzt werden, die die Lebenserwartung von Infizierten steigern können. Eine Heilung ist jedoch nicht möglich, da die HI-Viren nicht vollständig aus dem Körper entfernt werden können.

Zespół nabytego niedoboru (rzadziej upośledzenia) odporności, AIDS (ang. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome lub Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) – końcowe stadium zakażenia HIV charakteryzujące się bardzo niskim poziomem limfocytów CD4, a więc wyniszczeniem układu immunologicznego (odpornościowego), co skutkuje zapadalnością na tzw. choroby wskaźnikowe (niektóre formy nowotworów, grzybic, nietypowe zapalenia płuc) mogące skończyć się śmiercią pacjenta.
