Silver iodide (AgI) is a chemical compound used in photography and as an antiseptic in medicine. Silver iodide is highly insoluble in water and has a crystalline structure similar to that of ice, allowing it to induce freezing (heterogeneous nucleation) in cloud seeding for the purpose of  rainmaking.

Zilverjodide (AgI) behoort tot de zogenaamde zilverhalogeniden. Het is een zout met lage oplosbaarheid in water. Zilverjodide is een vaste ionengeleider. Voor AgI zelf is dat het geval bij verhoogde temperaturen. Er is echter een rubidiumzilverjodide waar dat al het geval is bij kamertemperatuur. Het wordt wel toegepast in batterijen.
