An aegis , from Greek αιγίς, is a large collar or cape worn in ancient times to display the protection provided by a high religious authority or, it is the holder of a protective shield signifying the same, such as a bag-like garment that contained a shield. Sometimes the garment and the shield are merged, with a small version of the shield appearing on the garment. It originally was derived from the protective shield associated with a religious figure when related in myths and images. The wearing of the aegis and its contents show sponsorship, protection, or authority derived from yet a higher source or deity. The name has been extended to many other entities, and the concept of a protective shield is found in other mythologies, while its form varies across sources.

Aégis is the third music album of Norwegian metal band Theatre of Tragedy, and the last album of their musical period defined by gothic stylings and Early Modern English lyrics.

In Greek mythology, aegis is the shield used by the Greek god Zeus.

Aigis (altgriechisch: αἰγίς, Gen. αἰγίδος, latein. aegis, -is, davon dt. Ägis) ist ein Gegenstand aus der griechischen Mythologie. Sie bezeichnet ein goldenes Ziegenfell (manchmal auch einen Schild und ähnliches), welches Zeus, bisweilen aber auch Athene oder Apollo, benutzte, um Gewitter heraufziehen zu lassen. Wenn das Fell geschüttelt wird, versendet es Blitz, Donner und Nacht.

Aegis est le nom d'un système de combat américain nommé d'après Égide (en anglais Aegis).

Dans la mythologie grecque, l’égide (en grec ancien  / aigís) est une arme merveilleuse détenue par Zeus, offensive autant que défensive, symbole de la puissance souveraine.

Egida (z greckiego. aegis, łac. aigis - dłoń koźla, tarcza Zeusa) - wg mitologii greckiej, tarcza Zeusa wykuta przez Hefajstosa (wg innej wersji, zrobiona ze skóry kozy Amaltei). Była ona atrybutem boga nieba i piorunów. Dała (jeszcze wtedy młodemu) Zeusowi zwycięstwo nad złym ojcem Kronosem, który wcześniej pożarł jego rodzeństwo.
