ACTUARY

An actuary is a business professional who deals with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty.Actuaries have a deep understanding of financial security systems, their reasons for being, their complexity, their mathematics, and the way they work . They evaluate the likelihood of events and quantify the contingent outcomes in order to minimize losses, both emotional and financial, associated with uncertain undesirable events. Since many events, such as death, cannot be totally avoided, it is helpful to take measures to minimize their financial impact when they occur. These risks can impact both sides of the balance sheet, and require asset management, liability management, and valuation skills. Analytical skills, business knowledge and understanding of human behavior and the vagaries of information systems are required to design and manage programs that control risk .

Aktuare sind mathematisch ausgebildete Sachverständige die Fragestellungen aus den Bereichen Versicherung, Bausparwesen, Kapitalanlage und Altersversorgung mit mathematischen Methoden der Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und Statistik (Versicherungsmathematik, Bausparmathematik und Finanzmathematik) bearbeiten und dafür Lösungen unter Berücksichtigung des rechtlichen und wirtschaftlichen Umfeldes entwickeln. Ziel aktuarieller Tätigkeit ist die Einschätzung und Bewertung von Risiken wie den Versicherungsrisiken, Anlagerisiken und Liquiditätsrisiken.

Aktuariusz - profesjonalista z dziedziny obliczania ryzyka oraz wartości bieżącej projektów finansowych, w szczególności długoterminowych lub obarczonych ryzykiem. Tradycyjnie profesja aktuariusza związana jest z branżą  ubezpieczeń, reasekuracji oraz planów emerytalnych (w Polsce: wycena rezerw na świadczenia pracownicze).

Een Actuaris houdt zich beroepshalve bezig met het evalueren van risico's. De actuaris heeft een sterke wiskundige en economische vorming en heeft een diploma in de Actuariële Wetenschappen.In Nederland kan men deze studie volgen aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam of via het Actuarieel Instituut. In Vlaanderen wordt men actuaris door het volgen van een aanvullende opleiding aan de universiteit (onder andere aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel), nadat men een basisopleiding (Master in...) heeft afgewerkt in econom(etr)ie, handelsingenieur of wiskunde.
