ACHOLI

Acholi (also Acoli) is an ethnic group from the districts of Gulu, Kitgum and Pader in northern Uganda (an area commonly referred to as Acholiland), and Magwe County in southern Sudan. The 1991 Uganda census counted 746,796 Acholi; a further 45,000 Acholi live outside of Uganda.

Die Acholi sind ein Volk mit etwas mehr als einer Million Angehörigen, das östlich des Weißen Nils im Norden Ugandas in den Distrikten Gulu, Kitgum und Pader sowie im südlichen Sudan lebt. Die Region wird daher auch Acholiland genannt. Sie sprechen die nilotische Sprache Acholi. Die am nächsten verwandten Gruppen sind die Lango, Alur, Luo und Shilluk.

Gli Acholi sono un popolo appartenente al ceppo etnico dei Nilotici e sono originari dell'area chiamata Bahr el Ghazal, nel sud del Sudan. Sono presenti principalmente nella zona di confine tra Uganda e Sudan, parlano una lingua del gruppo luo, anche se con leggere differenze tra le varie aree.
