ACHERON

Acheron translates as the "river of woe" and it was believed to be a branch of the underworld river Styx over which in ancient Greek mythology Charon ferried the newly dead souls across into Hades.

L'Achéron (en grec ancien  / Akhérôn) est une rivière d'Épire, en Grèce. Il se jette dans la mer Ionienne à 8 kilomètres de Parga, après avoir arrosé les marais achérontiques (Acherusia Palus). Son nom moderne est Phanariotikos.

Acheronte (in greco , in latino Acheron, -ontis) è il nome di alcuni fiumi della mitologia greca, spesso associati al mondo degli Inferi. Secondo il mito sarebbe un ramo del fiume Stige che scorre nel mondo sotterraneo dell'oltretomba, attraverso il quale Caronte traghettava nell'Ade le anime dei morti; sui affluenti sarebbero i fiumi Piriflegetonte e Cocito.
