ABYSSAL ZONE

The abyssal zone is the pelagic zone that contains the very deep benthic communities near the bottom of oceans. Abyss is from the Greek word meaning bottomless sea. At depths of 4,000 to 6,000 meters (13,123 to 19,685 feet), this zone remains in perpetual darkness and never receives daylight. Its permanent inhabitants – for example, the  Black swallower, tripod fish, deep-sea anglerfish, and the giant squid – are able to withstand the immense pressures of the ocean depths, up to 775  kilograms per square centimeter (76 megapascals or 4.92 long tons force per square inch). Many abyssal creatures have underslung jaws to sift through the sand to catch food. The deep trenches or fissures that plunge down thousands of feet below the ocean floor – for example, the midoceanic trenches such as the  Mariana Trench in the Pacific – are almost unexplored. Only the  bathyscaph Trieste has been able to descend to these depths. These regions are also characterized by continuous cold and lack of nutrients. The abyssal zone has temperatures around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Abisal, abysal, strefa głębinowa, strefa abysalna (od gr. ábyssos - bezdenna głębia, otchłań) – najuboższa w składniki pokarmowe, pozbawiona światła strefa mórz, oceanów i głębokich jezior, charakteryzująca się niską temperaturą (ok. 2 °C) i wysokim ciśnieniem wody (ok. 200 - 600 atmosfer). Strefa głębinowa w morzach i oceanach rozpoczyna się od głębokości ok. 2000 m pod poziomem lustra wody, aż po ok. 6000 m. W dużych jeziorach, których woda jest mniej przezroczysta abisal zaczyna się na głębokości ok. 400 m. Toń wodna tej strefy nazywana jest abisopelagialem, a dno abisobentalem. Obejmuje ok. 75% obszarów oceanów.

Abyssaal heeft betrekking op (het milieu van) de oceaandiepte tussen 4000 en 6000 meter. Hiermee liggen ze dieper dan bathyale dieptes, maar minder diep dan diepzeetroggen. Op deze diepte dringt geen licht van het oppervlak meer door, en heerst een druk tot 76 MPa.

Абиссаль, абиссальная зона — зона наибольших морских глубин, населённая сообществами бентоса океанического дна. Название происходит от греческого слова «ábyssos», которое переводится как «бездонный». Характеризуется отсутствием дневного света (постоянно находится в вечной темноте), слабой подвижностью вод. Живые организмы, такие как живоглоты , батиптеры , рыбы отряда удильщикообразных , населяющие абиссальные зоны, способны выдерживать значительное глубинное океаническое давление, характеризующее эти зоны (до 775 кг на см²). Животные в основном слепы, отличаются древностью. Воды отличаются очень низкой температурой (+2 °C) c низким содержанием биогенных веществ.

Se denomina abisal o zona abisopelágica a uno de los niveles en los que está dividido el océano según su profundidad, está por debajo de la zona batipelágica y por encima de la hadopelágica y corresponde al espacio oceánico entre 3,000 y 6,000 metros de profundidad. Es una zona oscura donde la luz solar no llega.
