ABOM

Abom is a nearly extinct language spoken in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. According to a 2002 census, only 15 people still speak this language.It has a lexical similarity of 14% with Bitur, 12% with Baramu, 11% with Makayam, 9% with Were, and 4% with Idi and Agob.All of the speakers are older adults. Middle-aged adults have some understanding of it, but no children speak or understand Abom.

Johan Fredrik Åbom (* 30. Juli 1817 in Stockholm, † 20. April 1900) war ein schwedischer Architekt.Johan studierte am Technischen Institut und an der Kunstakademie in Stockholm sowie mit Hilfe eines staatlichen Stipendiums im Ausland. Danach war er einige Jahre Beamter beim staatlichen Architekturbüro bis er 1843 von der Gefangenenkoordinierungsstelle (Fångvårdsstyrelsen) den Auftrag erhielt, die neuen Provinz- und Staatsgefängnisse zu errichten. Diese Tätigkeit verfolgte er 10 Jahre. 1850 wurde Åbom Mitglied der Schwedischen Kunstakademie.
