Normalton
Normalton är en fastlagd frekvens för stämning av musikinstrument. Vanligtvis fastslår man frekvensen hos tonen till 440 hertz.

Stemtoonhoogte
De stemtoonhoogte is de toonhoogte van de kamertoon, in de muziektheorie a' genoemd terwijl de wetenschappelijke benaming A4 is. Internationaal is in het midden van de 19e eeuw deze toonhoogte vastgesteld op een frequentie van 440 Hz.
Door middel van een stemvork is deze kamertoon beschikbaar voor het stemmen van een muziekinstrument.
Sinds 1885 is voor wetenschappelijke toepassing vastgelegd dat de A4 een frequentie van 440 Hz hoort te hebben (standaard van een specifieke klankbron bij 20°C, zie onderstaande tabel). De meeste stemvorken worden dan ook op 440 Hz gemaakt.
