A1
A1 means "very good" or in the best possible condition. It is usually considered to derive from the shipping insurers,
Lloyds of London's description of "A1 at Lloyd's", a first class ship. It was also a term popularised by the British War Office ABC system of classification for recruits in the First World War. A-1 recruits were considered fit for general service overseas.
