A&R

In the music industry, Artists and Repertoire (A&R) is the division of a record label company that is responsible for scouting and artist development. It is the link between the recording artist/act and the record label, generally to help with the artistic and commercial development of the label's artists. An A&R person is often required to handle contractual negotiations, find songwriters and record producers for the act, and schedule recording sessions. In the UK, before the rise of the Record Producer, the A&R Manager would oversee recording sessions and assume responsibility for making creative decisions relating to the recording.

Artists and Repertoire, meistens in der abgekürzten Version A&R genutzt, ist ein Begriff aus der Musikwirtschaft. Damit wird der redaktionelle Teil einer Plattenfirma bezeichnet. In der A&R-Abteilung gehen beispielsweise die Demotapes von sich bewerbenden Künstlern ein. Die A&R-Manager suchen nach neuen musikalischen Trends, welche für die Plattenfirma kommerziell verwertbar sind. A&R-Mitarbeiter treffen die Entscheidung darüber, Künstler unter Vertrag zu nehmen und sind für ihre Betreuung zuständig. Auf diese Weise geben A&R-Manager dem Plattenlabel ihr Profil.

A&R（エーアンドアール）はレコード会社における職務の一つ。Artist and Repertoire（アーティスト・アンド・レパートリー）の略。アーティストの発掘・契約・育成とそのアーティストに合った楽曲の発掘・契約・制作を担当する。実際には上記の職務だけでなく企画、制作、宣伝に至るまでレコード会社の業務全般に幅広く携わる。直接制作を行なわない場合や、制作部門を持たないレコード会社のA&Rは芸能事務所などの第三者が制作した原盤の発掘・契約と宣伝に携わる。逆に製造・流通部門を持たないレーベル型のレコード会社や芸能事務所のA&Rはアーティストの発掘・育成と制作、宣伝に携わる。A&Rは基本的にはレコード会社の社員が務めるが、フリーのA&Rも存在する。
