4AD is a British independent record label that was started in 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent, funded by Beggars Banquet Records, and is still active today. It now forms part of the Beggars Group, along with Matador Records, Rough Trade Records and XL Recordings.

4AD est un célèbre label indépendant pop rock britannique, emblématique des années 80 et 90, créé par Ivo Watts Russell et Peter Kent en 1979, avec le financement de la maison de disque mère Beggars Banquet. La nouvelle entité aurait du prendre le nom d'Axis, mais est devenu rapidement 4AD car le nom Axis était déjà pris par une autre compagnie d'Édition musicale. L'origine du nom est nébuleuse ; il viendrait de l'anglais "forward" (en avant), transformé en 4WARD puis 4AD. D'autres avancent qu'il avait été crée pour tester des musiciens sur un enregistrement, autrement dit "For A Day", 4AD.

4AD właśc. 4AD Records — niezależna brytyjska wytwórnia muzyczna założona w 1979 przez Ivo Watts-Russella i Petera Kenta działająca pierwotnie pod nazwą Axis Records (zmienioną jednak na 4AD, kiedy okazało się, że istnieje już inna wytwórnia nosząca tę nazwę). Po opuszczeniu firmy przez Kenta, Watts-Russell zaprosił do współpracy projektanta-grafika Vaughana Oliviera, który stworzył niepowtarzalną linię graficzną okładek wytwórni jednoznacznie identyfikującą ją na rynku i doskonale dopełniającą klimatyczny nastrój muzyki promowanej przez 4AD. Pod koniec lat 80. wytwórnia zmieniła gatunek oferowanej muzyki, koncentrując się na amerykańskim undergroundzie (np. Pixies). W początkowym okresie z wytwórnią związane były m.in:
