For other uses, see Ceres. Ceres (, ), also designated 1 Ceres (see minor planet names), is the smallest dwarf planet in the Solar System and the only one in the main asteroid belt. It was discovered on January 1 1801, by Giuseppe Piazzi, and is named after the Roman goddess Ceres—the goddess of growing plants, the harvest, and of motherly love.

Cérès, également désignée par (1) Cérès, est la plus petite planète naine connue du système solaire et la seule située dans la ceinture d'astéroïdes. Elle fut découverte le  1801 par Giuseppe Piazzi et porte le nom de la déesse romaine Cérès.

(1) Ceres ist ein Zwergplanet und mit einem Äquatordurchmesser von 975 km das größte Objekt im  Asteroiden-Hauptgürtel. Sie besitzt keinen bekannten Mond. Ceres wurde am 1. Januar 1801 von Giuseppe Piazzi als erster Kleinplanet entdeckt, galt lange als Asteroid und wird seit 2006 zur Gruppe der Zwergplaneten gezählt. Sie ist benannt nach der römischen Göttin des Ackerbaus Ceres. Ihr astronomisches Symbol ist eine stilisierte Sichel: .

1 Ceres – planeta karłowata, do  24 sierpnia 2006 uważana za największą ze wszystkich planetoid z pasa głównego między orbitami Marsa i Jowisza. Została odkryta jako pierwsza przez włoskiego astronoma Giuseppe Piazzi'ego 1 stycznia 1801 w obserwatorium astronomicznym w Palermo. Piazzi poszukiwał planety przewidzianej przez regułę Titiusa-Bodego. W sierpniu 2006 roku Ceres została uznana za planetę karłowatą.

Cerere (secondo la designazione asteroidale, 1 Ceres, dal latino Ceres) è l'asteroide più massiccio della fascia principale del sistema solare; fu inoltre il primo ad essere scoperto. Il suo diametro è di circa 950 km, e la sua massa è pari al 40% di quella di tutti gli altri asteroidi della fascia principale messi insieme.
