This is a summary of 1999 in music in the United Kingdom, including the official charts from that year.This final year of the millennium emphasized the massive changes in music. Whereas the year 999 was dominated by instrumental music propigated by oral tradition, music was now transformed to a time where the consumer had access to a vast spectrum of music both new and old, at their fingertips.The year may well be remembered for the debuts of Britney SpearsChristina Aguilera and Westlife. The most successful album, Come on Over by Shania Twain, spent a cumulative total of ten weeks at the top, followed by Boyzone's By Request with nine weeks in total.  Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca", Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" and Cliff Richard's "The Millennium Prayer" all topped the singles charts for three weeks.
