半導体
半導体（はんどうたい）とは、電気を通す導体や電気を通さない絶縁体に対して、それらの中間的な性質を示す物質である。英語semiconductor（"semi-" 半分、やや、"conductor" 導体）からの翻訳。
周囲の電場や温度によって電気をどの程度通すか（電気伝導性）を敏感に変化させるその性質は工業上極めて重要である。今日の電子工学の基礎をなす半導体素子、あるいはその集積体であるICといったものは半導体の性質を利用して作られている。
半導体は産業のコメだと言われるほど非常に重要な分野である。
