Be (Б, б) is the second letter in the Cyrillic alphabet. It represents , a voiced bilabial plosive similar to the English pronunciation of b. In the Russian language, б may also represent a voiceless word-finally or before a voiceless consonant, and before a palatalizing vowel. The old name for б was Buki. It had no numerical value. The letter в inherited beta's numeric value in the old system of Cyrillic numerals, so б had none.
