Óðr (Ódr), in Norse Mythology, is the husband of goddess Freyja and is father of Hnoss and Gersemi. Although the precise mythological meaning of the name is uncertain, the word itself means "wit, soul, spirit".Snorri Sturluson wrote in his books as follows: "Freyja is ranked next to Frigg: she is wedded to a man called Óðr, and their daughter, named Hnossa, is so very handsome that whatever is beautiful and precious is called by her name (hnosir.) But Óðr left his wife in order to travel into very remote countries. Since that time Freyja continually weeps, and her tears are drops of pure gold. She has a great variety of names, for having gone over many countries in search of her husband, each people gave her a different name. She is thus called and Hörn, Gefn, Sýr, and also Vanadís." Óðr ist ein Gott in der Mythologie der Edda.Laut Gylfaginning und Skáldskaparmál ist er der Ehemann der Freyja und hat mit ihr die Tochter Hnoss. Er wird ebenfalls vom Skalden Einarr Skulason (11. Jahrhundert) erwähnt, sowie in Völuspá und Hyndluljóð. Das heißt, er ist keine Erfindung von Snorri Sturluson. Manche Wissenschaftler haben versucht, Óðr mit Óðinn gleichzusetzen (und Freya mit Frigg, der Ehefrau von Óðinn), unter anderem wegen der Ähnlichkeit der Namen. Allerdings ist diese Gleichsetzung umstritten.

Óðr è un dio della mitologia norrena. Appartiene alla stirpe dei Vanir, è lo sposo di Freyja e il padre di Hnoss e Gersimi.Non è stato trasmesso alcun mito che lo riguardi. Si dice solo che facesse lunghi viaggi, tanto che Freyja dapprima piangeva lacrime d'oro per la sua assenza, quindi si spingeva ella stessa a viaggiare tra popoli sconosciuti alla sua ricerca.Il nome di Óðr, che significa "invasato" o "posseduto", è verosimilmente legato alla stessa radice da cui deriva il nome del dio Odino. Questo fatto e l'assenza di testimonianze di un suo culto inducono a pensare che in realtà Óðr sia una manifestazione secondaria dello stesso Odino, col quale condivide appunto l'abitudine ai lunghi viaggi. Da questo punto di vista la coppia Óðr-Odino trova un parallelo in quella formata dagli dei Ullr e Ullinn.

Óðr of Ódr (Od in het Noors, Deens en Zweeds) is de echtgenoot van Freya in de Noordse mythologie. Samen hebben ze een dochter Hnoss en Gersimi. Óðr is algemeen de god die afwezig is, tot droefenis van zijn vrouw, of de god die veel op reis is.Het woord zelf betekent "wetend wezen, ziel" en wordt gebruikt in samenstellingen in de betekenis van "felheid, geestkracht, energie" (van het Proto-Germaans *wōþuz). In die betekenis komt het overeen met het Griekse ενθουσιος, vanwaar "enthousiasme", "geestdrift" of "godsbevlogenheid". In de theorieën van Viktor Rydberg zou Óðr de zoon zijn van Orvandil en zou hij identiek zijn met verschillende andere figuren in de Noordse mythologie. Zo zien sommigen een overeenkomst tussen het godenkoppel Freya-Óðr en het koppel Frigg-Odin (zie Frigg: De connectie tussen Frigg en Freya). Vergelijk ook de etymologie van Odin en zijn aard om rond te dwalen.
