Unter Erektion (lat. für Aufrichtung) versteht man die Versteifung des männlichen Penis infolge mechanischer oder psychischer Reize, insbesondere durch sexuelle Erregung. Die Erektion wird hervorgeufen durch Entspannung der Schwellkörpermuskulatur, Steigerung des Blutzuflusses und Drosselung des Blutabflusses und stellt eine Voraussetzung für den Vollzug des normalen Geschlechtsverkehrs dar.
